The Grounded Elephant

About

Hi. My name is Miranda.

I am a social work student, finishing my BSW and heading into my MSW. Groundwork was born because I was sick of searching all over the internet for everything we need in this work. So let's lay the groundwork for your career.

It started as my own cheat sheet

Practicum at a domestic violence shelter in the Texas Hill Country, a stack of half-remembered theories, and a resource list that lived in six browser tabs and a photo of a binder page. I built the thing I wished someone had handed me. Then other students and clinicians wanted it, so here it is.

What it is

A working reference, not a textbook. The theories under the work, the modalities used in session, screeners you can score on the spot, group plans you can run this week, printable handouts, licensing and supervision rules for Texas, California, Florida, Washington, and New York, a filterable resource directory, and a shelter list with phone numbers that actually connect. Built for the moment you need the answer, not the semester you learn it.

What it isn't

Groundwork does not replace supervision, your agency's policies, your own clinical judgment, or your state licensing board. If something here and your supervisor disagree, your supervisor wins. If something here and the law disagree, the law wins, and I want to hear about it.

How it stays honest

Every rule is quoted from the actual rulebook or statute and cited by number. Every fee, hour count, and phone number was verified against the primary source before it went in, and the date of the last check sits in the footer. Anything that only applies in one state is badged with that state, Texas, California,Florida, Washington, or New York, and anything that applies everywhere is badged National, so nobody gets caught by a rule that isn't theirs.

Why an elephant

Elephants remember everything and never leave the herd behind. That felt about right.

Send me your requests

Groundwork gets better every time someone tells me what is missing. A resource that closed, a fee that changed, a rule that got amended, a worksheet you wish existed, a section you want added. Send it over and I will look into it.
